The Gateway Story

Gateway Community Church was formed as an independent, inter-denominational Bible study in November of 1991. In January of 1992, we incorporated as Gateway Community Ministries, Inc. dba Gateway Community Church. In December of 1994, the congregation met to vote on affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention.

We are not, however, your typical Southern Baptist Church. Our goal as a church is to create a weekend experience so compelling and helpful that even the most skeptical individuals in our community would walk away with every intention of returning the following week and bringing a friend with them.

At Gateway, we want you to know that you can come as you are but we hope that, because of your time with us, you will discover that God loves you so much He accepts you just as you are, but His love is such that He won’t let you stay as you are. He transforms us from the inside out! That statement is key to the Gateway experience. Many churches seem to emphasize “out-side in” transformation which led one man to state that many in our churches have been starched and ironed before they’ve been washed. We at Gateway are not interested in a person’s appearance on the outside; but we are vitally concerned with the condition of their hearts.
