John Pearrell began Gateway Community Church as a Bible study on November 11, 1990. In January of 1991, the Bible study incorporated as Gateway Community Ministries, Inc. dba Gateway Community Church.
John Married Myra (Wells) June 21, 1974 and they have one adult son, Colin.
John began his college years as a pre-med major at the University of Pittsburgh, but transferred to Moody Bible Institute when the call of God on his life became evident. John graduated from Moody with a diploma in evangelism; went on to Trinity College (now Trinity International University) where he received a BA in New Testament studies; then to Wheaton College where he received an MA (with honors) in Christian Ministry; and eventually to Christian Bible College, where he earned a PhD in Theology.
He has worked for Youth for Christ, Youth Guidance, Inc., American Board of Missions to the Jews, and has pastored three churches; the first as the interim pastor for three and a half years. John also served for years at Luther Rice College and Seminary (now Luther Rice University) as adjunct professor of theology, evangelism and world religions. He is a published author contributing to Parents and Children, (Victor Books) and Practical Christianity (Tyndale House Publishers). He is also columnist for the Citizen Newspapers where he writes a weekly religious column.
He has spoken in evangelistic meetings throughout the British Isles, and in Saint Vincent, Trinidad and Belarus.
